Happy New Year everybody! We do hope that you had a good Christmas and that the real meaning of the season was made known to you in meaningful ways. We also hope that you were able to stay warm between Christmas and New Year’s—it certainly was cold!
At our service this past Sunday during the Children’s Talk, Pastor Stephen completed our Nativity Creche scene as he spoke to the children about the visit of the wise men to Jesus. Stephen talked about the gifts that the wise men offered and he talked about the most precious gift of all that we can offer to Jesus—the gift of our love. He then invited the children to talk at home with their parents to explore ways in which they might show their love to Jesus.
During the Sermon, Stephen spent time focusing on a passage from Matthew’s gospel which spoke of the arrival of the magi to Bethlehem. Stephen talked about how the story speaks to more than simply the gifts that were given, or the gifts that we might considering offering to Jesus; instead, the very presence of these magi to the bedside of Jesus says something to us about the nature of God and our call to reflect God through our church and through the lives that we live. Commissioning for our 2018 Cambodia Mission Team
At our service this coming Sunday, we will be commissioning the 13 members of our church that will be participating in our mission to Cambodia. This will be their last Sunday prior to their departure on the following weekend. Please join us as we pray for the team, and the mission and as we send them off with our love.
Prayer Vigil for Cambodia
Once again we’d like to invite the people of HTACC to participate in a Prayer Vigil for our upcoming mission. The dates of the vigil are from January 19th to Feb 3rd inclusive and we’re hoping to have as many as 3 people praying per day. You can sign-up by contacting Sheila at the church office (click here or call her at 403-275-3630) to find out what dates we’re still needing people for or you can sign up on the sheet provided in the foyer this coming Sunday. All we’re asking those that participate to do is to commit to praying for our team at least once on the day that you sign-up for. Prayer suggestions are available here.
Thank you for your support of our upcoming mission.
College & Careers-This Coming Wednesday
The College & Careers group will be getting together this coming Wednesday at 7pm at the home of Erica Lang starting. This group is open to people from the church between the ages of 18-30 and is a great way to connect with others and an opportunity to grow in faith. If you have any questions about the College and Careers group or you would like directions to Wednesday’s gathering, please contact Madelyn Worth by clicking here.
Saturday Night Youth
Our Saturday Night Youth program has kicked off once again for the New Year after a few weeks off for the Christmas holidays. SNY is open to young people between grades 6 and grades 12 and it is a great opportunity for fun, food, fellowship and faith! The group is always open to new people—including people from the wider community—so if you have somebody in your household who attends SNY, please encourage them to invite their friends to join them. SNY meets every Saturday from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
If you have any questions about our youth ministry at HTACC or have questions relating in particular to our Saturday Night Youth programming, please, connect with Jayden, our Pastor of Youth & Children’s Ministries by clicking here.

Pre-Authorized Giving is Available at HTACC
As we begin a new calendar year, you may have been considering signing up for our pre-authorized giving program at HTACC to assist you in your regular giving and to help our church maintain a stable income each month (this is particularly helpful in the quieter summer months). If this is something that you have been considering, please download an automatic giving form from here and then either drop it off at the church office during the week or you can put it in the offering plate on a Sunday. We’ll then make sure that the documents are processed so that your automatic giving can proceed.
Once again, thank you for supporting the ministry of HTACC!
Tribes for 2018
We wanted to express our appreciation for those who have participated in our Tribes as we share in the ministry of hospitality within our worshipping community. Please be sure to have a look when your Tribe is scheduled and make every effort to assist on that day and please let your Tribe leader know if you aren’t able to assist on the date that your Tribe is scheduled. By doing this we can know ahead of time if alternative arrangements need to be made and can ensure that the work isn’t just left for one or two families. By sharing in this church family responsibility together we are sharing together in the ministry of service.
The Tribe schedule is printed on the bulletin board in the hallway leading to the Kidz Zone. It can also be accessed here.
The Week Ahead…
In the week ahead, we encourage you to continue to reflect on what God is saying to you through the story of the visit of the magi to Jesus? In what way are you an open door to somebody meeting Jesus and in what way might you be more of a closed one? How do you separate yourself from those who are different from you and what is Jesus saying to you about that?
This year could be one of great opportunity or it could be one in which opportunities are missed. It may be dependent upon how open we are to the opportunities before us and how willing we are to open the doors to others. How might open doors in your life participate in the mission of God each day?
We do hope the week ahead is a good one for you and that there are times when you are particularly aware of God’s presence with you. Don’t forget, that we’ll be sending off our Mission Team this Sunday—please do join us! We look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday at HTACC!
