This past Sunday at HTACC we celebrated the Transfiguration—the day that Jesus went up a mountain with three of his disciples and was transfigured before them. In our music we sung about God’s amazing grace and made the most of singing “Hallelujahs” since we’ll be refraining from saying hallelujah during the season of Lent. We do this as a Lenten sacrificial practice so that we can miss saying the word and can say it with renewed vigor upon the arrival of Easter Sunday.
During the sermon this week, Pastor Stephen started things off by playing a bit of Van Morrison’s Into the Mystic. Stephen used it as a springboard into his reflections on the Transfiguration story as recounted by Mark. At first glance it would appear as though the Transfiguration experience was something for the eyes to behold, but Stephen focused on the words of the Father, that Peter and the other two disciples, listen to Jesus. What was it about Jesus’ words that were so important? How is the passage to be related to our everyday lives? To explore such questions and to considers some possible answers please click here and listen to Sunday’s sermon entitled, Into the Mystic. Ash Wednesday Service
This is just a reminder that Lent begins this coming Wednesday. Lent is the season that leads us to Good Friday and Easter Sunday. During Lent people are called to reflect on their
relationship with God and to consider what is getting in the way of that relationship? How might the relationship be strengthened? It is also a time when people are encouraged to look for ways in which they might serve the needs of people around them. We will be marking the Season of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service at the church this coming Wednesday, starting at 7pm. Please join us for this important service.
Saturday Night Youth
Calling all young people between grade 6 and grade 12… you’re invited to this week’s Saturday Night Youth. The group will be meeting on Saturday between 6:45pm and 9pm and Jayden has a great evening planned. Please invite friends to join you for the evening. If you have any questions about our youth ministry at HTACC or have questions relating in particular to our Saturday Night Youth programming, please, connect with Jayden, our Pastor of Youth & Children’s Ministries by clicking here.
2017 Offering Tax Receipts
Tax receipts for 2017 are now ready for pick-up. Receipts will be available before and after church any Sunday this month and will be available from Sheila in the church office on weekday mornings between 8:30 and noon until the end of the month. In order to keep our costs down we would very much appreciate it if you could pick up your receipt in person rather than having us mail it out to you. If you have any questions about your receipt, please contact Linda Dalgetty our Envelope Secretary by clicking here.
Family Movie Night
Our next Family Movie Night at HTACC will be held on Saturday, Feb 24th (sorry for the mistake in last week’s HTACC News!) Doors will open at 6:15 pm and at 6:30pm we will be showing Hop—an Easter themed movie that first came out in 2011. All are welcomed to attend and you’re encouraged to invite friends and family to join you. There will be a 25-cent concession available for popcorn and sweets. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, which will be refilled as need. Please join us for this great family-friendly event!
We’re in need of some volunteers to help with our Movie Night—particularly with vacuuming after the movie. If you can assist, please email Shari Watson by clicking here or you can sign-up on the sheet provided in the church foyer.
Annual Meeting of Parishioners
Our Annual Meeting of Parishioners will be held on Sunday, February 25th following our Sunday service. Just prior to the meeting we will share in a potluck lunch (please sign up on the sheets provided in the church foyer to indicate whether you will be bringing a main dish, a salad or a dessert). The Annual Meeting of Parishioners is a very important meeting for the whole of our worshipping community as we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new one. At this meeting, among other things, we will be electing a new Parish Council, we’ll be looking at the Financial Report for 2017 and the Budget for the upcoming year. Please make note of the date, and join us for this important meeting.
This is also a reminder to Ministry Heads that we need your annual ministry reports into the church office by Wednesday morning of this week so that we will be ready to distribute our annual parish report booklet a week prior to our Annual Meeting.
The Men’s Ministry is inviting any men from the church to join them this Thursday, February 15th starting at 7pm as they gather for study, support and friendship. If you have any questions about our Men’s Ministry at HTACC, please contact Michael Hoskin by clicking here.
Gift Card Order Coming Up!
On Sunday, February 25th we’ll be sending off another order in our Fundscrip Gift Card Program as we continue to support mission ministries at Holy Trinity. Fundscrip gift cards are great in that they enable participants to purchase gift cards from numerous local retailers (over 100 available!), participants receive the face value of the gift cards they purchase and money is then returned back to us by the program thereby enabling us to raise funds for our mission ministry. You can place your orders and pay online (please click here to get started) or you can do it in person by filling out an order form and giving it to Shari Watson, our gift card coordinator, along with your cheque.
Online orders must be completed by February 21st while paper orders will be collected after church on Sunday, February 25th. All gift cards that are ordered will be ready for pick-up on Sunday March 4th. If you have any questions about our Gift Card Program please email Shari by clicking here.
Kidz Zone—Help Wanted
Perhaps you have been wondering whether helping out in Kidz Zone might be a ministry for you. Our Kidz Zone ministry has opportunities available to help you discern whether this might be a fit. We’re always glad to let people know that Kidz Zone curriculum is readily available and support can be given as people ease into responsibilities. We also try to ensure that volunteers only teach about once every three or four weeks so that nobody find the commitment too daunting.
To explore whether Kidz Zone might be a ministry for you at some point in the future, we encourage you to talk to Jayden our Pastor of Youth & Children’s Ministries by clicking here and he can then outline with you how such discernment might happen.
VBS Is On the Horizon!
Just a “heads-up” to let people know that this year’s VBS will be taking place during the week of July 23-27. We’re excited about this year’s program and we’re really hoping that it continue to be a support for our children’s ministry at HTACC and an effective outreach to the wider community. Stay turned for further information in the coming weeks and be sure to spread the word among friends and family so that people might save the dates!
The Week Ahead…
In the week ahead we encourage you to continue to reflect on how you are actively listening to Jesus. What’s getting in the way of you hearing Jesus’ voice? How are you being called to get your hands dirty in service of him? Please also take some time to consider how this Lent might be significant for you.
We hope that this week is a good one for you. May you be aware of God’s presence with you and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we gather once again for worship at HTACC!
