During Advent the services at Holy Trinity take on a different feel. Advent is a time of preparation–preparing ourselves for God’s special gift to us at Christmas when God sent to us his only Son. It is also a time for us to prepare for the time when Jesus will come again. In the Scriptures Jesus is referred to as the Light of the World and so during our preparation time in Advent we turn the lights in our worship area down low reminding ourselves of the darkness of our lives without Jesus. Each Sunday during Advent we light a candle in our Advent Wreath bringing a little more light to our service each week. Finally on Christmas Eve we light the Christ Candle in our Advent Wreath and light candles throughout the congregation–a visual reminder of the coming of the Light of the World.
During Advent we also begin our services with a brief Advent Meditation based on the four Advent themes: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
